Smile Rooms buys Glasgow practice in first move into Scotland
The nine-clinic group has bought a mainly private, four-surgery practice in central Glasgow. The price was not disclosed.
Smile Rooms, a dental group with nine clinics, has bought 1 Smile Dental Clinic on Renfield Street in central Glasgow. It is the group's first acquisition in Scotland. The deal was announced on 22 October 2026. The price was not disclosed.
The practice
1 Smile Dental Clinic has four surgeries, is mainly private and has about 5,000 patients. Its previous owners, Dr Ryan Shum and Dr Dean Shum, will stay involved clinically.
The plan
Smile Rooms says it will support the existing team and invest in the practice where appropriate. It will consider other opportunities in Scotland but is focusing on integrating the Glasgow practice for now. "We are delighted to welcome 1 Smile Dental Clinic to the Smile Rooms family," said Hanel Nathwani, a director of Smile Rooms.
The bigger picture
Smile Rooms is arriving in a market where Clyde Munro already has 65 practices, from Orkney to the Scottish Borders. Clyde Munro appointed a new chief executive, Louise Reeves, this month.
Analysis: what it means for your practice
For owners of mainly private practices in Scotland, another active buyer can mean more interest when it comes to selling. Keeping the selling dentists on clinically, as here, helps keep patients and staff through the handover. If you're thinking about selling in the next few years, it's worth knowing which groups are buying in your area and what they look for: here, a mainly private city-centre practice with an established patient list.
What to watch next: whether Smile Rooms makes further acquisitions in Scotland.
